Nous avons lancé le 20 mai 2009 un réseau serveurs à travers le monde pour accélérer la distribution de nos données “Live”. Ceci comprend entre autre Microsoft virtual Earth.

Résultat de la mise en place de ce CDN : amélioration de la vitesse de delivery des données de VE de 82% ;-)

Pour le moment seuls le VE Map Control et le Silverlight Map Control sont concenés par le CDN.

Quelques points techniques pour la mise en place :

1. Utilizing CDN requires AJAX map control users to make a non-breaking code change to gain the performance benefits.

2. No action is required for Silverlight Map Control users, as CDN logic is already built-in

3. As a result of CDN, delivery speeds of Virtual Earth content have been improved up to 82 percent. Given the significant performance benefits of CDN, it will be the preferred method of accessing Virtual Earth content.

4. This first release is part of an on-going program that will expand the network in the future.

La mise à jour de mars 2009 est live depuis cette nuit. Je l’attendais avec impatience…

En effet, nous travaillons pour vous apporter la meilleure solution de cartographie/imagerie du web. Je pense que là, c’est chose faite ! Dans cette dernière mise à jour, parmi les 21TB de données, nous avons mis à jour 45 villes françaises ! Et ce avec des données datant du mois d’août 2008 ;-)

Vous noterez au passage que, la ville pour laquelle j’ai le plus de demandes a aussi été mise à jour :-)

Depuis le 25 septembre, date du lancement de la dernière version de Virtual Earth, nous avons mis à votre disposition une nouvelle version du Control Java Script de VE (version 6.2) et avons lancé le Virtual Earth Web Service 1.0.

tout ceci vous permettant d'utiliser VE pour vos applications d'entreprise comme vos sites web, mais aussi les téléphones mobiles.
De plus, avec le web service, vous pouvez maintenant développer sans souci des applications avec WPF, SilverLight, etc. ! A nous les belles applis aux charmantes user interfaces new generation ! :-) YES !!!

DigitalGlobe annonce aujourd'hui un partenariat avec Microsoft autour de leurs données satellites. On parle ici de QuickBird, WorldView-1 et bientôt (enfin Q3 2009) WorldView-2. DigitalGlobe Announces New Content Partnership for Virtual Earth With Microsoft

Longmont, Colo., October 7, 2008 – DigitalGlobe, a leading global content provider of high-resolution world imagery solutions, today announced that it has signed an agreement with Microsoft Corp. for a multi-year contract under which DigitalGlobe will provide Microsoft’s Virtual Earth with its premium, high-resolution satellite and aerial imagery.
Under the terms of the agreement, Microsoft will have access to DigitalGlobe’s vast ImageLibrary, which contains over 460 million square kilometers of premium earth imagery, as well as new images being collected every day by its growing constellation of satellites.
“DigitalGlobe’s strategic approach to collecting earth imagery allows us to provide our customers with the high-resolution content they need,” said Erik Jorgensen, corporate vice president of Virtual Earth at Microsoft. “With its growing constellation of satellites, large network of aerial partners and a proven track record for delivering a large volume of new earth imagery, DigitalGlobe will be a key content partner for the Virtual Earth Platform.”

DigitalGlobe has been the pioneer in making earth imagery available worldwide for web portals and mobile mapping applications.  Its high-resolution satellite constellation and aerial program collect nearly 1 million square kilometers of earth imagery each day, with much of this imagery available via its online services.

Virginia and Texas DoT Launch Web Sites Integrating Virtual Earth

In early and mid-September, the Virginia Department of Transportation (DoT) became the latest public-sector agency to launch online citizen services portals built on Virtual Earth, while the Texas DoT expanded its integration to newly launched Virtual Earth Web sites. On the Virginia DoT Travel Center Web site, the “Truck Restrictions” Web portal layers road and travel information with rich, detailed imagery from Virtual Earth for Virginia residents. In addition, Virginia now offers a 511 Web site, which is also built on the Virtual Earth platform; it is an online resource for citizens to check up-to-date traffic conditions, routes and alternative transportation information. In Texas, the DoT launched four Intelligent Transportation System Web sites that provide up-to-date camera views of traffic and weather conditions, in addition to select road signs on Virtual Earth maps in Road and Aerial view modes. Web Sites Use Virtual Earth to Track Hurricane Gustav

Several news and informational sites are helping people visualize Hurricane Gustav using the Virtual Earth platform, including the Texas Natural Resources Information System, MSNBC, The Timothy Group, Weather Central Inc., My Weather Mobile and CNN broadcast. Each showcases different features. For example, MSNBC features the hurricane’s path, in addition to speed and pressure. My Weather Mobile also brings the tropical storm to the iPhone, presenting rich storm radar images on the device. Live Search Local Listings Center Now Available

Inca Mobile Launches Live Media GPS With Virtual Earth

Inca X Mobile released Live Media GPS beta, free software that streams video and tracks location together. Run on Windows Mobile 5.0 and 6.0, the application streams the video using Microsoft Silverlight, while visually indicating the location on a Virtual Earth map. Side by side, the features allow consumers to broadcast up-to-date video and location information for others to track. Nordstrom Retail Store Location Finder Uses Virtual Earth

In early September, Nordstrom Inc. rolled out its retail store location finder using the Virtual Earth platform. Shoppers can now search the location of Nordstrom, Nordstrom Rack and Spa Nordstrom on a rich and immersive map with Aerial and Bird’s Eye* capabilities. In addition to the location results, consumers can also see event information, contact information, store hours and point-to-point driving directions. Philadelphia Open Studio Tours Uses Virtual Earth

The Center for Emerging Visual Artists built its interactive Philadelphia Open Studio Tours (POST) map application on the Virtual Earth platform. Functions of the beta include a custom legend, hot-spot analysis, multiple tile layers and many more. Virtual Sweden Launches Map With Panoramic Photographs on Virtual Earth

Viewers can see those places in 3-D and aerial imagery, in addition to the photographer’s panoramic image, with pushpins pinpointing the exact locations. Dassault Systèmes Releases New Version of Virtual Earth-3DVIA

On Sept. 22, Dassault Systèmes announced the latest version of Microsoft Virtual Earth-3DVIA, a simple solution for professionals and consumers to create customized 3-D worlds, such as scenes, houses, buildings or cities, on the Virtual Earth platform. The new release now enables professionals and consumers to create and redesign complete 3-D scenes using content on the 3DVIA.com library. September 2008 Imagery Release

In mid-September, the Virtual Earth team announced 46 TB of new imagery, including ortho imagery of places throughout the United States such as cities in Arizona, Florida, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nevada and Washington. Live Search Maps India Launches

Si vous suivez l'actualité autour de Microsoft Virtual Earth, vous avez sûrement entendu des choses ces derniers jours, lu des blogs, cru voir des choses qui ont semblé disparaître... Il y a même eu des fuites qui ont ensuite été colmatées ;-)

Mais alors, vous avez rêvé ou il se tramait quelque chose de notre côté ?!?

Et bien oui, en effet, nous travaillons sur la nouvelle version du Contrôle Java Script de Virtual Earth, la 6.2 et sur le lancement de la première version du Web Service Virtual Earth.

Pour ceux que je fatigue, et je sais qu'il y en a beaucoup, voici le pointeur direct sur les mises à jours du SDK du Contrôle AJAX de Virtual Earth sur MSDN et du SDK Interactif Virtual Earth.

Pour les autres, notez la news majeure de notre côté : Virtual Earth 100% en français !
De même pour nos amis allemands, italiens et espagnols !
Cela veut dire que sur l'Amérique du Nord et l'Europe de l'Ouest, vous pouvez voir Virtual Earth dans votre langue et non plus 100% en anglais. Ainsi l'Océan Atlantique est précisé avec un beau "que" à la fin, la Burgundy a disparu au profit de la Bourgogne, de même pour le "y" de Normandy qui a été francisé.

Ce qui est important avec cette mise à jour n'est pas seulement le fait de pouvoir avoir avoir accès à VE en FR-FR, c'est aussi que ces paramètres sont accessible via les APIs et permettent à nos clients B2B de décider comment VE doit apparaître à ses utilisateurs. Ainsi, on peut tout à fait être en Espagne et voir VE en SP-SP mais aussi, changer ses préférences ou forcer cela si on sait que le visiteur est français et lui donner accès en Espagne à VE en FR-FR.
Ce n'est plus du tout anglais, ce n'est pas uniquement la langue locale dans le pays sur lequel on se trouve, c'est votre langue, où que vous vous trouviez et quel que soit votre recherche !

Une nouvelle majeure aussi concerne le support des applications mobiles : vous pouvez maintenant développer des applications pour Windows Mobile, RIM Blackberry, et l'iPhone d'Apple, avec plus de features, de nouvelles carte spécifiques pour les mobiles et le nouveau VE Web Service pour développer ces applications !

Il y a beaucoup de nouveautés très intéressantes parmi lesquelles je voulais en souligner 2 majeures.
La troisième à mon avis est la mise à disposition du pushpin clustering dans le Map Control :-) Ceci va changer la vie d'un certain nombre d'entre vous :-)

Ensuite, dans le désordre, l'accès à la météo au niveau mondial, en live, dans la 3D, rafraîchie toutes les 3 heures, l'accès aux metadata des images, la possibilité de masquer l'affichage de toutes tuiles VE (ce qui vous laisse un écran blanc pour afficher vos propres tuiles, plus de rooftop geocoding aux US, un nouveau reverse-geocoding etc.

Microsoft Partners With Institut Géographique National to Advance Digital Mapping in France

Agreement will expose Institut Géographique National’s high-quality aerial imagery across France in Microsoft Virtual Earth.

PARIS — 9 April 2008 — Institut Géographique National (IGN), a French leader in cartography and aerial imagery, and Microsoft Corp today announced a five-year partnership at Geo-événement 2008, a leading trade show for geo-information specialists in France. The partnership will allow Microsoft to license IGN’s aerial imagery of France and make this available on the Microsoft Virtual Earth platform and through Microsoft Live Search Maps.

“Our collaboration with IGN will help us bring a new level of realism to Virtual Earth in France,” said Arnaud Gstach, Microsoft Virtual Earth’s Business Development Manager in Southern Europe. “Consumers, businesses and government bodies will be able to access quality aerial imagery across the whole of France. This will give users an immersive experience of their neighbourhood or holiday destination, or provide businesses and government bodies with a mapping service for real-estate viewing, town planning, vehicle tracking and store locations.”

Currently, Microsoft Virtual Earth has high-resolution aerial imagery for nine major French cities and bird’s-eye imagery (45-degree angle) for 43 towns and cities in France. The BD ORTHO^® aerial imagery, available in May 2008, will build on the existing Virtual Earth platform by expanding aerial imagery to the entire French territory and allowing users to zoom and pan at a higher resolution than before. IGN is the only French organisation able to provide seamless aerial imagery with 100 per cent coverage of the French territory.

In addition, aerial imagery of the entire French coastline and 45 kilometres (km) inland will be available on the Virtual Earth platform at an even higher resolution than the inland imagery. This is significant given that France was the world’s No 1 tourist destination, with 78 million foreign tourists in 2006.¹ The coastal aerial imagery will be available on the Virtual Earth platform to organisations such as those in the tourism sector, and also to prospective tourists, allowing them to virtually explore the French coastline, architecture and amenities before visiting.

“We are happy that Microsoft Virtual Earth has turned to IGN to acquire its aerial imagery and take advantage of its expertise in this area,” said Patrice Parisé, IGN’s new general manager. “This partnership is testament to the quality of IGN’s geographical data.”

IGN will license its BD ORTHO aerial imagery to Microsoft Virtual Earth for five years. The partnership will allow the following imagery to be made available in Virtual Earth:

· Seamless aerial imagery of the entire French territory, including overseas territories, at 2.5 metres per pixel (m/pixel) resolution — available in Virtual Earth by early May 2008

· Aerial imagery with a 45 km coastal margin at a greater resolution of 1 m/pixel — available in Virtual Earth before the end of summer 2008

· Aerial imagery at an ultra-high resolution (50 centimetres per pixel) in urban areas of France with more than 50,000 inhabitants — available in Virtual Earth before the end of summer 2008

· IGN will also license its digital terrain model, BD Alti^®, to Microsoft, allowing topography of the entire French territory at 25 metres to be illustrated in Virtual Earth 3D — available this summer

“Microsoft is committed to delivering the highest quality product for Virtual Earth customers, government organisations and consumers in France, and this imagery agreement is a significant investment helping to achieve this commitment in France,” said Erik Jorgensen, general manager of Mapping and Location Services at Microsoft.

Microsoft Virtual Earth is present at Geo-événement 2008, 9 April, where Arnaud Gstach will deliver a presentation titled “Localise, Integrate, Innovate!” and will present the IGN aerial imagery to be made available in Virtual Earth.

Microsoft annonce un partenariat avec l’Institut Géographique National pour une cartographie numérique avancée en France

PARIS, France – le 9 avril 2008 – L’Institut Géographique National (IGN), leader français dans le domaine de la cartographie et de l’imagerie aérienne, et Microsoft Corp annoncent aujourd’hui, à l’occasion du Géo-événement 2008 – le rendez-vous des spécialistes de l’information géographique en France – la création d’un partenariat de cinq ans. Celui-ci permet à Microsoft d’exploiter sous licence les images aériennes de l’IGN réalisées sur l’ensemble du territoire français, dont les Départements et Territoires d’Outre-Mer, et de les rendre accessibles sur la plate-forme Microsoft Virtual Earth et via Microsoft Live Search, le moteur de recherches de Microsoft.

« Notre collaboration avec l’IGN nous permettra d’apporter davantage de réalisme à Virtual Earth en France » a déclaré Arnaud Gstach, Responsable du Business Development de Microsoft Virtual Earth pour l’Europe du Sud. « Le grand public, les entreprises et nos clients du secteur public seront en mesure d’accéder à des images aériennes de qualité pour l’ensemble du territoire français. A l’heure actuelle, Microsoft Virtual Earth possède une imagerie aérienne de haute résolution pour neuf grands centres urbains français et une imagerie oblique avec un angle de vue à 45 degrés (Bird’s Eye view) pour 43 villes de France. Disponible début mai 2008 depuis la plate-forme Virtual Earth, l’imagerie aérienne de l’IGN, licenciée sous le nom BD ORTHO^®, étend cette résolution à l’ensemble du territoire français, permettant aux utilisateurs de zoomer et de se déplacer avec une meilleure résolution qu’auparavant sur tout le territoire français. L’IGN est en effet la seule organisation française en mesure de fournir des images aériennes couvrant 100 % du sol français.

La France était, en 2006, la première destination touristique au monde, avec 78 millions de touristes étrangers¹. Des images aériennes de toutes les côtes françaises, s’étendant jusqu’à 45 kilomètres à l’intérieur des terres, seront accessibles sur la plate-forme Virtual Earth, avec une définition encore meilleure. Cette imagerie aérienne côtière pourra ainsi être visualisée dans Virtual Earth, apportant une grande valeur aux applications des professionnels du tourisme et permettant aux touristes eux-mêmes d’explorer virtuellement le littoral français, son architecture et ses attraits, avant de décider de s’y rendre.

« Nous sommes heureux que Microsoft Virtual Earth se soit tourné vers l’IGN pour acquérir son imagerie aérienne et bénéficier de son expertise en la matière», explique Patrice Parisé, nouveau directeur général de l’IGN. « Ce partenariat témoigne de la qualité des données géographiques de l’IGN. »

Par ce partenariat, l’IGN accorde une licence d’utilisation de son imagerie aérienne BD ORTHO à Microsoft Virtual Earth pour une durée de cinq ans. Virtual Earth pourra accéder et diffuser les images suivantes au grand public ainsi qu’à ses clients professionnels:

· Photos aériennes de tout le territoire français, y compris les Départements et Territoires d’Outre-Mer, à une résolution de 2,5 mètres par pixel (m/pixel) – disponible dans Virtual Earth d’ici le début du mois de mai 2008.

· Photos aériennes de l’ensemble des côtes française, s’étendant jusqu’à 45 km à l’intérieur des terres, à une haute résolution de 1 m/pixel – disponible dans Virtual Earth avant la fin de l’été 2008.

· Photos aériennes des zones urbaines françaises comptant plus de 50 000 habitants à une très haute résolution de 50 cm/pixel – disponible dans Virtual Earth avant la fin de l’été 2008.

· L’IGN accorde également à Microsoft une licence pour son modèle numérique de terrain, BD Alti^®, permettant une illustration topographique à 25 mètres de tout le territoire français dans Virtual Earth 3D. Ceci sera disponible dans Virtual Earth d’ici l’été 2008.

Microsoft Virtual Earth est présent sur le Géo-événement 2008 (Porte de Versailles), le 9 avril. A cette occasion Arnaud Gstach présentera un exposé intitulé ‘Localisez, Intégrez, Innovez!’ ainsi que des photos aériennes de l’IGN accessibles dans Virtual Earth.

Cela fait 200 000 fois qu'on me le demande et je n'ai jamais pris le temps de vous donner les réponses, sorry. Non seulement en interne, chez Microsoft France, mais aussi Christophe, Julien, et de nombreux lecteurs de mon blog se sont étonnés, depuis octobre 2007, date à laquelle nous avons lancé la version 6 de Virtual Earth, qu'il soit impossible d'accéder à VE via Live Search Maps en France.

Well, avant de vous donner des explications et de me lancer dans un long monologue comme je sais le faire, voici le lien à utiliser pour ne plus être embêté :

En utilisant ce lien, vous forcez le site Live Search Maps à croire que vous êtes localisé sur le marché (mkt = market) US et que vous parlez anglais (english). D'où le mkt=en-US dans l'URL. Si vous êtes curieux et regardez de tps en tps les URL des services MS, vous verrez que nous utilisons cela souvent.

Un peu de "dessous de l'histoire" ;-)
Il faut avouer, cela ne va plus durer longtemps (RDV le 9 avril au Géo-Evénement pour une bien belle annonce :-) http://www.ortech.fr/geo-evenement/evenements_associes.php), mais pour le moment, la France n'est pas vraiment "complète" dans Live Search Maps (LSM). En effet, dans VE, le "moteur" de LSM, nous n'avons que 9 zones urbaines couvertes en ortho photos.
Ainsi, mes amis de MSN France ont décidé de ne pas lancer LSM en France pour ne pas décevoir nos utilisateurs. Le choix leur appartient et je ne vais pas ici le confirmer ou l'infirmer. Les deux points d evue se respectent selon moi.
Ainsi, ils ont décidé de mettre en place un re-routage automatique des adresses IP reconnues comme étant en France, vers un autre site, certes à l'expérience utilisateur limitée, mais fournissant un accès à la recherche locale sur le site de MSN France.

mais rassurez-vous, ils me mettent la pression pour pouvoir lancer LSM en France dès que possible ! :-)
